Authentication and Authorization is one of the most important parts of nearly all applications. Is the person using your app who they say they are? Is the right data for the right person being displayed at the right time?

Auth (short for Authentication) is also one of the harder parts to understand how to build. This page is dedicated to exploring different ways to authenticate and authorize an application.

PassportJS docs aren't the best, but Passport is one of the most popular authentication methods in Node & Express applications, so we're going to start with Passport. The cool thing about Passport is it offers a variety of separate "strategies" to authenticate your app. You can use Twitter, Google, Email & Password, Json Web Tokens, and much more.

In this section, we're first going to learn about Sessions, and how they work all by themselves. Once we understand how sessions work, we'll be able to implement a sessions based authentication strategy with Passport.js.

Once we understand how Sessions work we're going to learn about JSON Web Tokens (JWT) and how they work to store personalized, sensitive data. After we learn how the process of storing info in JWTs and decoding the token into usable data works, we will implement an authentication strategy in Passport that utilizes the passport-jwt strategy.

Summary: ALT + Shift + / = select & jump.

To delete a multi-line block, the entire lines, go to beginning of line. Then ALT + Shift + / then enter character(s) and select using the metajump popup characters. THEN move to end of line and run DELETE command (d)

"backgroundColor" to delete "ground", have cursor on "g". type "dtC" to delete all the way to C. Does not delete "C".

 Couldn't easily figure out a way to make vim search not suck in VSCode, so I removed the vim keybinding. CTRL +Shift + p  and right click on the keybinding with "vim" something in it, and "remove" keybinding. That allows the normal search to work.

- Want a better way to get to end / beginning of a React component the same way I can use % to get to begin and end of ( ) and { }

- Doesn't delete matching bracket. If I only have {} and backspace the {, the closing bracket isn't removed.

- Wrap highlighted text with { } or " " etc.

- Can't Cancel the search results with ESC. probably because of VIM bindings.

- Advanced New File not working properly. with or without vim.

- Want to enter insert mode while putting a new line above / below. currently if I need a new line, I'll put cursor on line above, move to end. hit enter then type. Would like a faster way to do that.

- Don't like how "rafc" pulls in "import React". It may already be there. sometimes I want useState, sometimes useState and useEffect, etc..

Not everyone needs to learn html and css, but if you're interested in web design or web development, then you should learn html and css because these markup languages will help you create the look and feel of the website. Everything that is displayed in a web browser renders as HTML and CSS. Every time you search the web you look at HTML and CSS, so if you're working on websites there's no way around it.

Designers don't usually work in HTML and CSS, but they design mockups of what a page will look like as a finished product. Being comfortable with HTML and CSS helps designers know what works and what doesn't work for the developers and helps you to have a more cohesive team.

Object Oriented Programming In JavaScript is a big topic, and we're going to break it down step-by-step.

Before trying to tackle JavaScript OOP, you should have an understanding of the fundamental building blocks of JavaScript. Once you have the fundamentals, it will be much easier to pick up Object Oriented Programming concepts as they relate to JavaScript.

The Prototype Property in JavaScript helps objects share the same function. If you have 100 cat objects and they all "meow", there's no need to write the same function 100 times. Instead, we can re-use a function with the Prototype feature of JavaScript. The Prototype feature is what allows us to create a "chain" of objects that JavaScript will "look up" to when searching for a property or function.

"This" in JavaScript is used to reference an object in a reusable way. For example, if you want to increase the users age, you wouldn't want to have to do something like 

 was created, allowing us to do something like 

 and having complete control over what "this" means in different scenarios.
